In my original plan, I aimed to complete my +2 level and head to India. However, life led me through unexpected twists and turns. I am Laxmi from northern Nepal, currently pursuing my bachelor’s at the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh.
I got a scholarship from Help Nepal for my +2 level. After completing the class 12th board exam, I faced the important question of what to do next? There are very few people in my community who continue their studies beyond +2 as far as I know. Most of them move to India. My plan was to head to India for work after passing 12th. I am from a middle class background. Looking at the financial resources of my family, it was not possible to afford education. So,it became my responsibility to earn money and meet my own needs.Unfortunately,at that time the only option I had was to pause my studies.
Life, however, took an unexpected turn. I have had a good relationship with Udeshya, particularly with my mentor. When I was in Class nine, I had the opportunity to participate in a Udeshya bootcamp in Kathmandu. When I found myself torn between the prospects of going to India or pursuing a scholarship, my mentor advised me to prioritize education. Encouraged by her, I applied for scholarships at the Asian University for Women believing that education could be my ticket to a better future. The outcome exceeded expectations; not only did I apply, but I also secured full scholarships for my bachelor’s degree.
I am deeply thankful to both my mentor and team Udeshya for their unwavering support during the most significant decision of my life.Their strong encouragement and guidance have not only shaped my past choices but continue to influence the path I am on.

You deserve it laxmi and better wishes for your future 🍀🍀
